Masculine Master Bath Options

Here are three different concepts that I did for a bachelor looking to remodel his Master Bathroom. The tile looks like slate but is actually a porcelain tile, made by Cobsa Usa. This will give us the look of slate, but with the cost and durability of porcelain.

A Nostalgic Halloween

All of the artwork below is by my new favorite artist Kim Dickinson. She produces such layered and textural pieces, I could stare at them for hours. I love her specialty Halloween blog, 'A Nostalgic Halloween', where you can see her entire line of Halloween themed artwork, as well as some other artists that use the same stylized 'stamping' as their medium. Kim's artwork seems to be a bit deeper to me than the others though, a bit more symbolic maybe.

I love the idea of decorating for Halloween with an Edgar Allan Poe theme, it's very classic, don't you think? I used to love reading Poe's work, especially his short stories, when I was in high school. The 'Poe' theme has a timeless creepiness about it, and since I'm about interior decor that stands the test of time, and nothing overly trendy, I like the idea of investing holiday decor money into this theme that can be used for years to come.
Enjoy these images, I hope they inspire you to do a little creepy Halloween decorating this year. After all, you haven't really experienced Halloween until the hair on the back of your neck stands up at least once!

Wine Label Artwork & Plaster Faux Painting

Here are some snapshots of some artwork that I just installed for a Wine 'Room', or Wine Niche really, in Lakewood Ranch Country Club. Before I installed the wine label artwork, I had my amazing faux painter, Erin Ernst, come out and put a heavy, troweled, old plaster finish to the niche. She then stained the texture to have a subtle smoke and water-stained effect. It came out beautifully: not overdone and very believable. I am very picky when it comes to faux painting, and Erin always has a light hand, when it comes to creating effect, which is why I have used her talents for years now.

The framed giclee, wine label artwork is from one of my favorite sources, Art Classics Ltd. http://www.artclassicsltd.com/ Call or email me to get a password to view all of their beautiful artwork online, through Orange Moon Interiors.

Fresh Mid-Century Modern

Here are two Design Concepts that I did for a client on a tight budget that loves mid-century modern and danish modern furniture. This style can be perfect for the budget-driven client, because this furniture can be found at estate sales and on ebay, in great quality, and at great prices. The Master Bedroom above has been kept very clean and simple to really show off the orange Herman Miller chair. The asian-inspired, whimsical bench is for the foot of the bed, and adds another punch of color in a warm tone. The bulk of the budget will be spent on the reproduction bed, similar to the one shown. The wallpaper is called Athena from http://www.wallpaperfromthe70s.com/

The color palette of creamy white, dove gray and watery blues is a fresh contrast to the medium to dark wood tones that are usually found in these pieces. The walls will be painted a flat, creamy white, with dove gray curtain panels to set the background of the spaces. Since the various pieces of furniture such as the cocktail table, end tables and chairs were found at such bargain prices, the bulk of the budget dollars go to purchasing a stain resistant and durable new sofa. The sofa is important in this Living Room so that the whole look is updated, so that it doesn't feel as if you are walking into a seventies time-capsule. Artwork, sofa, lighting and accessories for both rooms is from Orange Moon Interiors.

Candle Wall

This stone wall is a perfect setting for the Kohler Sok overflowing bathtub, and the Kohler Purist ceiling mounted bath faucet. Eldorado Stone has the edges to do the cut-outs for the candle niches, and to wrap the windows as well. Bravo!

A Cowboy Nursery

This nursery was inspired by objects from my childhood like the Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls. I took vintage objects and mixed them with transitional furniture and a vibrant color palette of denim and red. The comfy denim rocker is a mom's best friend, and the fire engine red crib is a dramatic focal point. The white wainscoting on the walls is a necessary break for this strong color palette so that it doesn't look cluttered.

Chalkboard Doors

I recently got to use one of my favorite products in a Kitchen renovation, for a walk-in pantry door. Above is one of the homeowner's little girls enjoying the bottom portion of the chalkboard door. I used the Simpson brand magnetic-chalkboard door, in paint grade maple wood, then painted it with a washable, latex, semi-gloss white. I put new black handles and hinges on all of the doors in the surrounding Kitchen areas in contrast to the white. The homeowner is currently enjoying their beautiful, yet functional new kitchen. Look for the before and after photos to be posted in the portfolio section of www.orangemooninteriors.com soon.

Dog Shower

I love this doggie shower! If you are building or remodeling and have enough space to fit in this nice little compact doggie shower with storage over top; how convenient would that be? Bravo!

Carribean Cocktail Christmas Tree

My mother has a very colorful, Caribbean-style, decorated home, so I created this mini Caribbean Cocktail Christmas tree for her. I took a pre-lighted, lime-green Christmas tree, then added citrus-orange balls and a bow on the top. Intertwined are some small silver ornaments as well, for sparkle. However, the stars of the show for this little tree, are the pink, cocktail umbrella-straws that I found in her kitchen. The Caribbean blue scarf as a tree skirt, and the Florida rum cake finish her up nicely. Very fun little project!

Thanksgiving Decor

I love the easy transition from Halloween decorations, into Thanksgiving. Before Halloween, I create a base of decorating essentials using synthetic leaves, preserved mosses and pumpkins. Then after Halloween is over, it's great to just have to take away the "scary stuff", and leave the autumnal decor, in it's own simplicity. Here are some ideas that I love for a Thanksgiving table. Amber glassware is just the thing to set off the colors of Thanksgiving decor. If you're feeling energetic, put a couple of candles inside of small pumpkins. My favorite idea however, is at the top; a colorful branch cutting wrapped in burlap to look like a small tree.

From my home to yours, have a beautiful Thanksgiving!

Decorating With Maps

I have always loved decorating with maps. It must be the explorer in me that is drawn to the intricacies and curiosity of them. Decorating with maps is always an adventure in itself. Each map is different, with different color variations and levels of detail so that every installation is different. I love the versatility of using maps. They can be used in a beach house bungalow or in a sophisticated Library or Den, giving completely different looks.
It takes two people to pull off installating maps directly to a wall, and I leave this job to my expert faux painter, Erin. She uses a glaze to adhere paper to walls and prefers Aqua glaze brand to avoid wrinkling and to avoid loosening the ink from the paper. The result is unique and stylish.
I'm very excited about the sectioned framed maps (top image). This is new artwork, available from Orange Moon Interiors, of each individual state in America! The colors are all different and they are stunning.
